Small But Awesome Worship Events
Here I am sitting at our local small church, Holy Spirit Community Church in Kenosha, Wisconsin waiting for the worship team to arrive for the preservice sound check, practice, prayer, etc. I’ve been here all afternoon since the morning service to setup for this event. Our small church does not use a live worship team for its Sunday services (not yet anyway). So they have limited gear for a live event. It is also in the basement of a daycare facility and so there are many steps to bring gear down.
So, I set up a small mixer hooked into the Churches small mixer, 12 channel snake, a Jensen Isolator for my wife’s (who is the worship leader) keyboard, 5 microphones of which the Church owns two. I also brought down my son’s guitar rig (AC30 etc.) since he is the sound man on staff at Kenosha First Assembly and didn’t get here until after I brought everything down and had everything ready to roll. He is also not feeling well and is trying to get some sleep.
This is a small setup in a small room – so no drum mics, no guitar mic, no monitors. The main speakers are behind the worship team. Luckily I don’t need much gain. The drummer and my son who is playing electric can keep their volume under control (I hope).
I have a few cool things set up. iTunes is running on my Macbook under the DJ mode and I have my iPod touch running the remote app so I can control the pre and post service songs and volume remotely. I have an H4 for recording using its internal mics since the board mix of course is not worth recording unless you just want to hear keys and vocals with some drum and guitar bleed into the vocal mics.
What else – had the two for $4.00 special at the local Burger King for food this afternoon and am just about done with the coffee in the thermos, then I switch to an energy drink!
What is most important though, is what will happen tonight, the worship, freedom to worship in the Spirit and an awesome time of having some heaven on earth! And even though this is a very small event, it will lift the incense of prayer and worship up to heaven to blend with the continuous worship there.
And that is what the sound/media ministry is all about!
