Installation Road Trip 2

Here we are on the plane on the way home from the Word of Life Church installation. It is about 76 hours since we started the trip. We put in three long days of work starting with 15.5 hours on Thursday, 10 hours on Friday and about 4.5 today and an hour or so of documentation at my brother-in-law’s house. We are fairly tired, both mentally and physically.

First and most importantly, it is difficult to put in words how great it is to work with a great group of Christian friends with the common vision of creating a great house of worship to glorify the Lord in their local area of Surprise, Arizona. They are a growing church that is offering many ministry opportunities for their mission field to a wide age range. From an awesome custom made desk/mixer/table, superb electrical/conduit/floor pocket installation, speaker installation, and all of the cable work, mounting of gear etc. and just the support given to the workers – I believe that Jesus was smiling as he saw the Old Testament pattern of building the Temple in Solomon’s time fulfilled again in 2010! I’m sure he wasn’t surprised!!

About the installation, it went basically as planned. No big surprises! The design was solid. The communications across the many miles separating us Wisconsinites and Arizonians was accurate such that we walked into church Thursday morning with exactly what we expected. The soldering of about 52 connectors went faster than we planned, the help provided gave me more time to focus on the overall project management and documentation of the system as it was put together. Several late additions to the system resulted in delivery of additional speaker cable on Thursday and several Furman remote controlled switching devices on Friday and those all arrived as scheduled. Brian’s ears again resulted in a great sound as the equalization was adjusted for the room etc.

A few technical details: The speaker system sounds great and looks perfect for the room. The center cluster consists of two Yorkville CU15′s and the subwoofer is a JBL VRX918 flown above the CU15′s. These are powered by QSC PLX3102′s. The monitor system consists of four Yorkville NX35′s powered by two QSC RMX amplifiers. Speaker management is accomplished through an existing dbx DriveRack PA and dbx equalizers handle the monitor EQ duties.

Today we helped the worship team get setup and through their first practice with the new system. We gave everyone an overview of the system. We also did more in depth training of several sound operators on the new system.

Here is a link to many of the pictures that were taken:

Tomorrow I’m sure that Jesus will be smiling again, even if there are a few “bumps” as the team uses the new system for the first time, as the praise and worship team assists the congregation in lifting the sweet scent of worship to join the constant worship service going on in heaven!

And that is what the sound/media ministry is all about!
